Students with new planter

-By Robe Walker

The Harlem Post Office planter, situated in the outside front entry way of the Harlem Post Office, was in need of repair and replacement, the lone plum tree has survived for over two years without a proper planter in need of replacement. Students from a Harlem High School class became aware of this needed project. As a community service project, students then decided to express their creativity and design skills and build a new planter to contain the hardy plum tree and provide a space for other future plantings. Currently the students feel they’ve achieved satisfactory progress and have been able to express some local aspects that inspired creativity. The design and completion of the planter used some local material. Students gathered soil, rocks and a few flowers to create a six foot by six foot place for the plants to grow. Students are seen here filling the planter and applying the final touches. The students at Harlem High School are appreciative for the opportunity to be involved and see the results of their ideas come to fruition by contributing to the planter recovery project. Well done students at Harlem High School.
