Harlem Elementary Science and Engineering Assembly
On Monday, March 17th, Harlem Elementary hosted a team of students from MSU Bozeman’s American Indian Science and Engineering Society. The presenters grew up in Montana, as well as Washington and Idaho, adding to their relatability with the students. The targeted audiences are 5th grade students from rural reservation areas with the specific purpose of exposing the students to STEM activities. The focus of this involvement is to help encourage students to get excited about Science and Engineering, and to motivate them to attend college in order to pursue careers in those fields. The team set up learning stations which provided insight into STEM subjects including using UV beads to make bracelets; block coding the take off, flight, and landing of drones; building an obstacle course to maneuver a drone using a block program; and learning about color subtraction by using red and blue filters to explore how colors are affected, modeling the process scientists use to observe the frequency of lights in space. The 5th graders had a great time learning about these subjects, especially with such engaging hands-on science stations. Harlem Elementary sends a sincere thank you to the MSU American Indian Science and Engineering Society.

Congratulations Wildcat/Lady Cat All Conference selections! Job well done.
